How to add automatic subtitles to Instagram Story? Instagram is launching a new accessibility feature that will allow you to add subtitles to Instagram Stories and soon to Instagram Reels.
Using the caption sticker, brands and creators can work to build a more inclusive experience for their community.
Here’s everything you need to know about the newest Instagram feature and how you can use it for your business.
How to add automatic subtitles to Instagram Story
Using the new caption sticker is pretty similar to using any other Instagram Stories sticker. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Access the Instagram Stories or Reels camera and record or upload a video from your camera roll.
Step 2: Once uploaded or registered, tap the sticker icon
Step 3: Select the “Subtitles” sticker.
Step 4: In this step, you can choose from four different text formats, move the text on the screen, and change the color.
And that’s it! Your captions should now be generated on your Instagram story.
Make sure you follow and read the captions before posting, as Instagram may not accurately transcribe your sound. Currently, users cannot edit subtitles.
NOTE: The Instagram caption sticker is only available in English-speaking countries
Don’t have access yet? Here are other ways to add subtitles to Instagram
If you don’t have access to the new subtitle sticker, don’t panic.
According to TechCrunch, Instagram “first launches the subtitle sticker in Stories and then starts testing it in Reels, followed by a larger release.”
Fortunately, there are other ways to add subtitles in the meantime.
The first way is to manually add text overlays to Instagram to summarize key points in your speech:
Alternatively, you can use third-party applications to generate subtitles. We recommend the following applications:

Why are the subtitles of the Instagram Story and Reels posts so important?
Instagram Stories subtitles are easy-to-read subtitles for your videos, making it easier for the community to read your content.

Now you can add a captions sticker to Stories that automatically turns what you say into text.
“Sound off” is a request we get a lot so I’m excited that it’s coming to Reels too . We also hope to expand beyond a handful of countries soon. pic.twitter.com/4eMczUoj4x

It was one of the most anticipated features on Instagram – and for good reason!
As a brand, your Instagram content should be as inclusive as possible, and the new Instagram caption sticker will help.
Not only are Instagram video captions important for people who watch without sound, but they are essential for the hard of hearing. Especially since over 5% of the population – 466 million people – have hearing impairments.
If a user browses Instagram Stories or Reels in a quiet public place without headphones, chances are they’ll be out of your video.
But if the same story had subtitles – it suddenly becomes easier for your audience to stop, watch and understand the video.
Subtitles can go a long way in creating a more accessible space for everyone in your community – proving to be essential to your brand or business.
